The 2019 MacArthur Beach State Park Environmental Champion Award has been presented to Teri Jabour and the junior award to Skylar Hines.

The Environmental Champion and Jr. Environmental Champion awards are presented to individuals who have made contributions toward the preservation or betterment of Florida’s environment.

Throughout her career, Ms. Jabour has worked to rebuild native plant populations, organize volunteers, and teach students and adults about sustainability and Florida ecosystems, including presenting a Love Your Landscape lecture on attracting butterflies and birds to your garden at MacArthur Beach, a news release said.

“Teri Jabour is such a worthy recipient of the Environmental Champion Award, which is reflected through her years of service in the field,” said Cheryl Houghtelin, executive director of the Friends of MacArthur Beach State Park, Palm Beach County’s only state park.

Ms. Hines has been a member of the Jr. Friends at MacArthur Beach since 2013. She has participated in beach and mangrove cleanups, as well as contributed to the Marine Debris and the Dune Restoration with Sea Oats citizen science projects.

“Skylar has consistently been a dependable and hardworking volunteer during summer camps and with the Jr. Friends. She stands out as someone who will continue to contribute to the environmental field and encourage others around her to be environmental stewards,” said Veronica Frehm, Friends of MacArthur Beach State Park director of education.
