Munyon Island
Only accessible by kayak, paddleboard or boat, Munyon Island was originally called Nuctsachoo by the Seminoles, which means” Pelican Island” and it supported one of the largest wading bird rookeries in South Florida.
Munyon Island is a great example of a mangrove habitat. You’ll most likely see mullet, snapper, rays and if you’re lucky, manatees. Kayaks are availabe for rental at Beach Outfitters Gift Shop & Kayak Rental to travel there from the Park. The island, which is only accessible by boat, has no bathrooms, but it does have covered picnic areas and grills.
The boat docking facility on Munyon Island opened in November, 2010. The day-use only facility will accommodate up to 20 boats and provides easy access to the island’s nature trails and picnic pavilions.
To visit by boat, the dock is located 2.3 miles north of the Blue Heron Bridge, east of Intracoastal Waterway Marker 30.
