MacArthur Beach State Park Director of Education Wins Environmental Award

A Florida conservation and environmental education program has an award-winning advocate in Veronica Frehm.

Ms. Frehm, director of education at MacArthur Beach State Park, was awarded the FWC Florida Project Wild 2018 Facilitator of the Year.

The goal of Project WILD is to assist learners of any age to develop awareness, knowledge, skills, and commitment to make informed decisions about wildlife and the environment.

Ms. Frehm, a news release said, uses Project WILD in the curriculum she has developed and teaches daily at the park. As a Project WILD facilitator, she presents a series of professional development workshops each year, working with educators to get them to feel comfortable teaching outdoors.

“I am honored to be recognized by Project WILD, and be a part of this amazing organization” she said. “It is so rewarding to able to empower educators and give them the tools to continue Project WILD’s mission to help students learn how to think, not what to think, about wildlife and the environment.”

John D. MacArthur Beach State Park, Palm Beach County’s only state park, is on a barrier island between the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Worth Lagoon. It is made up of 438 acres of coastal land and contains four different communities or habitats including seven species of plants and 22 species of animals on the endangered or threatened list.
